The first item I've both started and finished since I entered blogdom! This is a red-letter day. I would like to you know that I have just typed and deleted about 1,000 variations of a "red-letter/red-sweater" joke, none of which achieved anything even approaching humor. A little bloggage is a dangerous thing. What? Oh, the knitting.
I haven't blocked it or anything, but I think it turned out pretty well. If I make another tank or a pullover in Linen Drape in the future, however, I should consider making the next size up so as to permit the Drape-y aspect of the yarn to, well, manifest itself. The main thing I love about the cardigan I made in this yarn in the fall is the skimminess of it. Skimminess: not a word, but should be. Just like clapter. One of my life's goals is to get clapter into the dictionary. Any guesses as to what it means?
OK, I'm setting a precedent on the kind of information to record for FOs...right...here goes, ideas cribbed from other bloggers as usual:
Yarn: Rowan Linen Drape (Tango shade).
Needle: US 4 (the patterns suggest US 5; that I went down and not up to get gauge is most unusual).
Mods: knit in the round up to the arms a la the Chickami (I'll edit that to make it a live link when I get on a PC -- anyone know how to do that on a Mac in typepad?? Surely there's a way. Anyway, the Chickami is one wonderful pattern).
Other mods: fiddled around with the edging in all locations...ah, I said I would give details in an earlier post, but it involves another link, this time to a skinny rabbit's unfailingly helpful and inspirational blog of beautiful knitting, so that explanation will have to wait as well.
Start date/end date: March 18/March 31, 2004 (fudging since not all the ends are taken care of)
Comments: Great pattern, great yarn. To those of you who are whispering that it's discontinued, I say, "I'm not listening, I'm not listening!" Boo, hiss to Rowan for that decision. Linen Print? You can have it. No offense; just not my thing. Though I am considering test-driving the Cotton Braid, I have to confess. That stuff is wack! I just hope Rowan doesn't think it would be a good idea to go all-wack, all the time.
Right on, Carolyn! I just really think the language needs a word that describes silmuntaneous applause and laughter. The room burst into clapter. For the times when saying "The room burst into applause" tells only half the story!

it looks awesome dude!!! very very nice. (and hello have you eaten anything lately? looking v. skinny!) i know - it's annoying htat you don't get that little URL button on MAC isn't it. you just have to type it in with the correct HTML yourself. i will write it out for you - this word here will be the click on link.

Nice job Mary! I'm inspired to do something with my Linen Drape (one of these days...) and that red color looks great on you!

I love this top! I have to get my hands on Rowan 29! And I'm trying to get my hands on as much Linen Drape as I can find before it is all gone. I saw Cotton Braid in person yesterday, and all I can say is that I won't be using it. Calmer and Cotton Tape are very nice though. Even Linen Print has its possibilities, but it still doesn't justify replacing Linen Drape.

Lovely top. I love the neck shaping and it looks great on you. Hopefully spring comes soon so that we can all get our little tops out!
