Carolyn has already written a great recap of the great concert we went to last night. Thanks again, Carolyn. My parents listened to Joan Baez a lot -- I memorized lyrics even when I didn't like/understand the songs. This one, for example, (which she didn't perform last night) completely befuddled me -- still does, come to think of it. I jumped at the chance to go when Carolyn mentioned it, and it was an amazing night. Although I enjoyed it all, the high point for me was the very first song, which she sang with her two young men band guys:
Virgil Caine is my name, and I drove on the Danville train...
I'm a Yankee through and through, but that's quite a song in her hands. Gave me the chills last night to hear it live.
OMG! I got goose bumps just reading the Virgil Caine line you wrote! I can just hear it strongly in my mind. Baez is one of the most incredible voices of our time - she put to lyric and music the Faces of Our Nation that many of us had never met.
What a lovely evening!
